Data Driven Instruction

What is Blended Learning?

Blended learning has truly transformed our classrooms at St. Teresa of Avila School. By seamlessly integrating online learning with traditional teacher-led instruction, we’ve created a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience for our kindergarten through 8th-grade students. Our commitment to innovative and effective educational practices led us to adopt the Blended Learning model in 2017, making us one of the few Catholic schools in the country to embrace this approach.

Our students reap the benefits of this model in multiple ways. They receive direct instruction from teachers, fostering strong teacher-student connections and personalized guidance. Collaborative learning among students allows them to engage with their peers, exchanging ideas and working together on projects. Moreover, the individualized learning aspect, facilitated by Chromebooks and cutting-edge online curricula like iReady, Lexia, IXL, and Dreambox, empowers students to progress at their own pace and cater to their unique learning needs.

In our classrooms, you’ll find students fully immersed in self-directed, independent study using these innovative online resources. They also have the opportunity to participate in teacher-led small group and one-on-one instruction, where we can address their specific questions and areas of improvement. Additionally, offline individual or small-group study complements online learning, reinforcing concepts and encouraging further exploration.

Overall, blended learning has proven to be a game-changer for our students, offering them a well-rounded and enriching educational journey. We are proud to embrace this approach and witness the positive impact it has on our students’ growth and academic success.

The Benefits of
Blended Learning

1.

Individualized instruction: Students begin each online session by logging on to a secure, individualized account; our online curriculum providers recognize each student and deliver content and questions that push each student regardless of his or her level. Students who are behind grade level can catch up more quickly; students who are ahead of grade level continue to be challenged.

2.

Increased teacher effectiveness: Online content providers handle student assessments automatically, so teachers spend less time grading papers and more time engaging with students. Teachers can analyze the data in near-real time and use that information to organize small groups for more effective instruction offline.

3.

Data-driven growth: Utilizing the data received from the online content providers, teachers can teach to each student’s individual needs and meet them where they are. Designing small group and individual instructions helps students grow each year academically.
